Hubballi: 9th Grade Student Injured by Classmate in Blade Attack Over Unpaid Loan
Hubballi, EXPRESS News: A ninth-grade student studying in a school in KB Nagar sustained neck injuries after being attacked by a classmate from the tenth grade, who allegedly used a sharp blade in response to an unpaid loan. The incident occurred on Sunday evening within the Bendigeri police station limits.
According to the police, the ninth-grade victim had borrowed ₹10,000 from a tenth-grade student (who obtained it from an illegal finance business operator) at his school, and the victim was also paying ₹1,000 per week in interest. On Sunday, a group of 10-12 individuals reportedly abducted the tenth-grade student, demanding repayment of the loan. They held him in illegal detention for two hours, during which he was forced to drink alcohol.
The tenth-grade student managed to call his father from captivity, informing him of the situation. The father assured the kidnappers that the money would be repaid, leading to the student’s release. However, later that evening, an altercation between the two boys over the money resulted in the tenth-grade student allegedly attacking the ninth grader with a blade, causing neck injuries.
It was revealed that the ninth-grade student had borrowed the money to celebrate his birthday, and the tenth-grade student had obtained it from an illegal finance business operator.
The Bendigeri police have filed a case and detained five minors in connection with the incident. Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar stated that the case highlights an illegal lending racket operating in the area, with exorbitant interest rates charged to minors. The police are investigating and plan to address this unlawful practice soon.
